3 Ways Invisalign Will Make Life Easier

3 Ways Invisalign® Will Make Life Easier

So, you want to straighten your teeth and perfect your smile, but you want to do it in the easiest way possible? No problem! Let’s talk about one of Dr. Aimee Skelton’s favorite treatments – Invisalign®.

Invisalign® 101

Invisalign® is a series of trays, called aligners that are made from clear, flexible plastic. Each tray is specifically made for your mouth and your unique orthodontic needs. The aligners work by applying light pressure to gently move your teeth into their ideal placement. During treatment, you wear your trays 23 hours a day and only take them out to eat or clean your teeth.

Easier to Clean

One of the major benefits of Invisalign® is how easy it is to clean, brush, and floss your teeth. The best part is, you don’t need any special tools that might be necessary with traditional metal braces. You simply brush and floss your teeth as normal, and brush your aligners with a soft toothbrush!

Discrete Treatment

One of the major drawbacks of orthodontics is the appearance of most appliances.  Many patients are self-conscious about the way that they will look with metal braces. Invisalign® is made from thin, clear plastic that is virtually invisible when worn. Many people may not even be able to tell that you’re wearing your aligners! This makes Invisalign® a perfect choice for adult patients who may be hesitant to seek out orthodontic treatment based on the appearance of braces.

Fewer Visits

With traditional metal braces, regular office visits are required to tighten the wires that apply pressure to your teeth. With Invisalign, there are no wires to tighten! Your aligner trays work in a similar manner by applying pressure, but it is achieved by switching to a new tray. At your appointment, you’ll be given a series of trays that are all slightly different and a schedule of when to change the trays. Your teeth will gradually move closer and closer to their ideal placement as you switch to a new tray. Because you change trays at home, there are fewer office visits required for Invisalign treatment.

Who is a Good Invisalign Candidate?

Invisalign® is a great option for many patients, and typically Invisalign® works best for people who have all of their permanent teeth and who are responsible enough to wear their aligners as directed. Patients who are still waiting for their adult teeth to erupt or who may have trouble remembering to wear their trays may be better suited for other treatment types. Fortunately, at Skelton Orthodontics, we offer many different services to cater to all orthodontic needs! Contact us today to get started.
