Braces & Your Child: What’s the Best Age?
What’s the best age for your child to get braces? As parents, deciding when to take your child to the orthodontist can be a big decision.
What if their teeth straighten over time? Or if I wait to take them in, will it make problems worse?
To take the guess work out of when you should schedule an appointment, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends taking your child in to the orthodontist by age 7. At this age, your child’s teeth and bone structure are still developing, so it’s a good time for us to evaluate the spacing or crowding that may cause permanent teeth to come in crooked.
If your child is 7 or older and has crooked teeth, gaps between the teeth, an overbite, or an underbite, contact us to schedule an appointment. Your child may not need to start orthodontic treatment right away, but early exams allow us to monitor your child’s development over time. This way, we can ensure a healthy, straight smile that continues into adulthood.
